Company Profile
Fischer Instrumentation(GB) Ltd, Hampshire, is part of the Helmut-Fischer Group - innovative leaders in the field of coating thickness measurement, material analysis, microhardness testing, electrical conductivity and ferrite content measurement as well as for density and porosity testing.

The Fischer micro and nano hardness testing systems offer great versatility for the laboratory.

The Fischerscope® HM2000 is a computer-controlled measuring system for micro hardness testing and determination of material parameters according to ISO 14577 and and DIN EN ISO 14577.

The advantage of the Martens Hardness measurement versus the conventional Vickers Hardness measurement is that it is free of subjective influences such as the optical measurement of the indentation diagonal. However, the HM2000 is also suited for hardness measurements using Berkovich or a spherical indenter (diameter 0,4mm). The direct measurement of the indentation on the video screen allows for a simple measurement of the hardness according to Vickers.

Applications include paint, synthetic or hard material coatings (PVD, CVD), electroplated coatings (decorative, functional), materials used specifically in medical technology applications, electronic components, bond wires, etc.

The Picoinentor® HM500 is extremely suitable for the measurement of thinnest nanometer coatings. By evaluating the unload plot, one can draw conclusions about various material characteristics, such as the elastic indentation modulus EIT, according to the norm DIN EN ISO 14577.

Applications include hard material coatings, ultra-thin DLC coatings, dirt-repellent coatings (e.g. sol-gel coatings), coatings for PC hard disks/ CDs, very thin lacquer coatings, ion-implanted surfaces, nanocoatings for sensors, implants/ medical technology, matrix effects in alloys, biological materials, ceramic materials

Company Profile
Fischer Instrumentation (GB) Ltd is part of Helmut-Fischer GmbH, manufacturers and global market leaders in materials analysis, coating thickness measurement and micro hardness determination.

The nano and microhardness testing systems meet the more challenging of laboratory needs such as hardness testing of ultra thin hard coating on a soft substrate; the hardness pattern within boundary layers; the elastic and plastic properties; the creep properties; characteristic qualities such as modulus of indentation and the elastic-plastic energy portions.

The HM 2000 and HM 500 (Picoindentor) nano and microhardness testing systems utilises the load/indentation depth method “Martens Hardness HM” to differentiate it from the conventional hardness value determined according to Vickers. The indentation depth of the Vickers or Berkovich pyramid is measured continuously during this penetration process and the hardness value HM calculated from the selected maximum test load and the resultant indentation depth.

The Fischer XAN and XDAL spectrometer ranges bring a unique approach to X-ray analysis, being non-destructive with large chambers to accommodate complete assemblies, from populated PCBs to gold plated trophys. The instruments have selectable X-ray beam sizes, from 50 micro metres, essential for small components or PCB tracks, up to beams measured in millimetres for rapid bulk material analysis of solids, solutions or powders.

The ability to measure and analyse coatings, even underlayers, extends the functionality of the instruments and avoids serious errors when making RoHS investigations. The systems are used by the military and aerospace industries in counterfiet component identification and obsolescent component replacement and also by Assay Houses, to measure precious metals non destructively.

Company Profile
European Focus
Labbay® has been formed with the European consumer in mind, where sourcing laboratory supplies within the European community. Labbay® provides a hassle free method for buying products without the worry of expensive import duties and equipment voltage requirements. Buyers can search from either within their specific country for products and services or from further afield, for a wider availability.

Linking Products and Services
Labbay® provides the unique service of placing customers in contact with local service and support companies, where support to customers is provided in their local language. Each equipment item is linked to service organizations, that are qualified to support the make and model of each item. This provides sellers from outside Europe with the opportunity to work with European service companies, registered on Labbay®, who provide buyers with a guarantee of local after sales support.

Additional Resources
Labbay® supplies a “wanted” section for those searching for rare or difficult to find items; which lists sellers of laboratory equipment with a qualified list of buyers. Finally a discussion forum offers an arena in which scientists may search for advice on all aspects of laboratory related subjects.
