Detecting proteins
Syngene has announced that a US medical institute, the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Centre (DHMC), is significantly improving detection of proteins associated with spinal cord injuries, using a G:BOX Chemi HR16, Syngene’s fluorescence and chemiluminescence image analyser. Dr Edgar Alfonso Romero-Sandoval, Instructor of Anesthesiology at the DHMC explained: “We switched to a G:BOX Chemi HR16 because it allows us to adjust exposure conditions, (something we couldn’t do with our laser scanner) to detect these tiny protein amounts. Using a G:BOX Chemi HR16 has improved the sensitivity of imaging our Western blots so much, we have been able to reduce the detecting antibody concentration by 2-4 fold and significantly lowered reagent costs.”

High specification imaging
Syngene is pleased to announce the availability of its new U: Genius, an affordable gel documentation system for accurately recording DNA and protein gels images. Built to the same high standards as Syngene’s market leading G:BOX image analysers, U:Genius provides an impressive 2 mega pixel resolution. The system has a compact darkroom with a unique touch screen and can accommodate any bench top transilluminator. Having a universal darkroom without any computer but using an embedded Windows XP processor, means scientists can save money because they do not need to purchase an additional transilluminator or PC with their U:Genius. The U: Genius darkroom comes with internal white light for viewing and focusing and has self-stowing doors that automatically turn off the transilluminator when the door is opened, thus preventing accidental UV exposure.

Single lighting module
Syngene has introduced the RGB Lighting Module, designed for the Syngene range of G:BOX Chemi imaging and documentation systems. The RGB Lighting Module is ideal for scientists who want the flexibility to quickly image gels or blots stained with commercially available fluorescent and visible dyes. Syngene’s RGB Lighting Module has 84 high intensity LEDs providing red, blue, green and white light. Additional slots in the module also allow the fitting of UV tubes emitting light of 365nm or 254nm, respectively thereby further enhancing the range of applications. The module, which can be fitted to the complete range of G:BOX chemiluminescence systems is fully computer controlled as is the filter wheel containing the emission filters, making it quick and easy to begin fluorescence, white light and UV imaging.
