HPLC range addition
Supelco, a division of Sigma-Aldrich has extended its already successful range of Ascentis Express HPLC Columns. Ascentis Express is a novel and innovative HPLC technology, proven for its robustness, efficiency and reproducibility over the past three years. Supelco has now increased the range to include a Phenyl-Hexyl phase. Ascentis Express columns are based on Fused-Core particles and provide a new standard in column technology where the resolving power, sensitivity and ability to increase speed, exceeds that of columns based on traditional fully porous particles. For users of standard HPLC systems, this innovative technology provides high performance and UHPLC-like results. The family of columns includes classic C18 and C8 reversed-phase selectivity, with performance benefits for Fast HPLC and High Resolution HPLC.

Solid phase microextraction
Supelco, a division of Sigma-Aldrich has released the 7th Edition SPME CD featuring SPME demonstration videos, over 3,000 applications as well trouble shooting and theory advice. Included on the CD is information on the metal SPME Fibres. These fibres contain a special metal alloy in the needle, plunger, and fibre core. This metal alloy adds significantly greater strength, resulting in up to 10 times longer fibre assembly life. This new material also allowed us to improve the fibre manufacturing process, resulting in better inter and intra-lot reproducibility leading to greater overall reproducibility in analytical results. You can request further information on our range of SPME products or request a copy of the latest CD via email from ukanalytical@sial.com

Pre-column filter
Sigma-Aldrich has introduced a new range of OPTI-SOLV EXP pre-column filters (from Optimize Technologies, Inc). The OPTI-SOLV EXP hand-tight pre-column filter for extreme high pressure applications. OPTI-SOLV EXP is ideal for protecting columns with small particle size material employing ultra high pressure techniques such as UHPLC. Such techniques analyse samples in the most demanding applications, which can decrease the life of these expensive columns. EXP Pre-Column Filters help extend that life and protect your column investment, without sacrificing performance. The filters are approved for use at 20,000 psi and tested up to 30,000 psi. EXP pre-column filters are available with Titanium Hybrid ferrules for easy direct connection to any UHPLC column.

Analytical reagents
Fluka, a division of Sigma-Aldrich, introduces the new 20101/2011 Analytical Reagents and standards catalogue. This laboratory resource lists over 12000 products for chromatography, spectroscopy, titration and sample handling. It claims to contain the most comprehensive offering of analytical standards and certified reference materials for all analytical chemistry disciplines. The Fluka brand stands for quality, service and innovation. The two chemical plants at Seelze near Hannover and at Buchs in the Rhine valley near St. Gallen form the nucleus for high quality production. The chemistry know-how forms the basis for numerous new developments in the two co-ordinated product ranges. Excellent service via the world-wide Sigma-Aldrich distribution network and the internet makes it easy for customers to source and order products.

For solid phase extraction
Supelco, a division of Sigma-Aldrich has introduced a new range of Solid Phase Extraction cartridges. Supelco’s Supel-Select HLB SPE is a hydrophilic modified styrene based polymer developed for the solid phase extraction of a broad range of compounds from aqueous samples. The retention mechanism is predominantly based on reversed-phase interaction. However, because the phase is hydrophilic modified, it is also selective for more polar compounds. Supel-Select HLB SPE allows users to extract a broad range of compounds using a single sorbent and generic methodology. Analyte recovery was high across all the compounds tested, and results were highly reproducible across three production lots. For most applications, Supel-Select HLB SPE is amenable to generic methodology with minimal effort required to optimise recovery, selectivity, and reproducibility.
