Company Profile Bruker is a worldwide group of companies offering systems and solutions for Life Science Applications, Process Control, and Analytical Research. With our proven experience in the technologies of NMR,EPR,FTIR/NIR,Mass Spectrometry and X-Ray, we can cover virtually all of your research or analytical needs. Bruker is the only manufacturer offering such a wide range of analytical and research systems, products and solutions. Four autonomous business units, the result of more than forty years at the forefront in innovative design of analytical and process instrumentation for science and industry! BRUKER has succeeded in maintaining a close dialogue with the scientific community and provides applications know-how and technical expertise through a staff of applications chemists and physicists devoted to research and development. Today, more than 40 years after BRUKER's activities began, the typical dynamic impetus of a "young" company is still predominant. This is one of the main reasons why BRUKER products, worldwide, have a leading position in the field of analytical instrumentation. | |

X-ray data collection
Bruker AXS has announced XRDWizard V2.9 support for Variable Counting Time (VCT), a data collection scheme for X-ray powder diffraction, where the measurement time is systematically increased towards higher 2theta angles. As a result, the natural steep intensity fall towards higher 2theta angles is compensated for, leading to dramatically improved data quality for all kinds of profile fitting applications. VCT data typically results in: greatly enhanced chance for success in structure determination. Atomic coordinates, occupancy factors and (anisotropic) thermal parameters are better determined, especially in the case of light atoms. More stable refinement of atomic coordinates and thermal parameters of light atoms, including hydrogen. Substantially lower RWP indicating a better overall fit.

Handheld XRF
The new TRACERturboSD from Bruker AXS claims to be the world’s first handheld X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) instrument that uses a Silicon Drift Detector (SDD) for dramatically improved speed, sensitivity and resolution. Bruker’s industryleading proprietary XFlash SDD, previously available only in high-performance laboratory XRF instruments, now offers unprecedented speed and analytical specificity when integrated into the novel handheld TRACERturboSD. Now all handheld XRF customer segments can benefit from these performance advantages in their analytical work. In the general metals analysis markets the TRACERturboSD offers higher speed, sensitivity and selectivity for many demanding handheld XRF applications.

X-ray crystallography
Bruker AXS has announced that its SMART X2S automated chemical X-ray crystallography system has been awarded a R&D 100 award, recognising it as one of the 100 most technologically significant products introduced in the past year. The SMART X2S for the first time allows inorganic and organic chemists to produce atomic resolution, 3D molecular structures in their own laboratories quickly and easily at the touch of a button. The SMART X2S takes small molecule structure determination to the next level of convenience by automating the previously difficult aspects of X-ray structure determination, from sample loading and alignment through data collection all the way to the mathematical structure solution, structure verification and report generation.

LC/MS GC/MS in one
Bruker Daltonics has announced the new further enhanced micrOTOF II API-TOF mass spectrometer, as well as a novel, optional GC-APCI Interface for a single high-performance platform for LC/MS and GC/MS with analyte flexibility. Bruker Daltonics has enhanced its well-known high-resolution API-TOF system, the micrOTOF, even further improving its resolution to greater than 16,500 and its mass accuracy to 1-2ppm. Even better mass accuracy plus SmartFormula makes the micrOTOF II an outstanding instrument in its class, providing the user with high confidence in formula determination and identification, even in complex mixtures.

Broad range of systems
Several new Bruker solutions are available for cutting-edge small molecule analysis in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries, as well as in academic and clinical research: the new Complete Molecular Confidence solution for small molecule analysis combines unambiguous on-the-fly SmartFormula3D molecular formula determination by our new ESI-Qq-TOF mass spectrometer with automated structure verification by NMR. Similarly exciting, drug and metabolite tissue imaging at therapeutic dosing levels is now enabled by a novel high-performance MALDI-FTMS imaging platform. Moreover, the new FlashFormula(TM) NALDI-TOF solution allows very rapid, highthroughput small molecule detection and identification without time-consuming LC separations.

Ion trap software
Bruker Daltonics was the first company to introduce ETD (Electron Transfer Dissociation) on its commercial high-capacity trap. With the release of its new Compass 1.3 ion trap software, Bruker’s high-capacity trap HCTultra P Discovery System becomes the first commercial mass spectrometer fully equipped with both ETD and PTR (Proton Transfer Reaction). Using an ion optics design and chemistry setup for ETD/PTR allows rapid, routine top-down characterisation of large peptides and mid-size proteins in the high-capacity ion trap with superior sensitivity. The usefulness of ETD/PTR is demonstrated impressively by the unambiguous characterisation of post-translational modifications.

Phase III Contract
Bruker Daltonics has been awarded a $1.3 million followon Phase III contract for further research, development and testing within the Autonomous Rapid Facility Chemical Agent Monitor (ARFCAM) program by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). This Phase III program is expected to last about three years during which time Bruker will continue to improve its ARFCAM technology. ARFCAM Phase III is intended to lead to the next generation fully automated and unattended chemical agent and toxic chemicals detector for government facilities and critical infrastructure by the year 2011. Bruker Daltonics’ work in ARFCAM Phases I and II has already resulted in a commercial product line, called the RAID(TM)-AFM (Automated Facilities Monitor).

Small molecules in 3D
Bruker AXS has launched its compact and affordable SMART X2S(TM) (Crystal-to-Structure), the first benchtop X-ray crystallography system for fully automated three-dimensional (3D) chemical structure determination. It is designed for use by chemists who have no special training in crystallography and it is expected to appeal to many inorganic and organic chemists at colleges and universities, as well as in bio-pharma and chemical companies. The SMART X2S allows inorganic and organic chemists to produce atomic resolution, 3D structures of routine samples in their own laboratories quickly and easily at the touch of a button. The SMART X2S takes small molecule structure determination to the next level by automating the previously difficult aspects of X-ray structure determination, from sample loading and alignment through data collection all the way to the mathematical structure solution.
