Labelling for labs

The LABXPERT labelling system is specifically designed for the labelling requirements of the modern laboratory, and is capable of producing clear, permanent labels for virtually any laboratory application – flasks, tubes, straws, microplates
and microscope slides to name only a few. The LABXPERT’s 300dpi resolution printing means that even the smallest fonts and barcodes can be printed with complete clarity and legibility. Over 140 lab-specific symbols (Greek, scientific and
safety symbols) are instantly available for added convenience. This compact, lightweight (under 1Kg) hand-held device can produce labels 80% faster than handwriting – and with font
sizes down to 1mm, far more information can be included than on any hand-written label.

What's in your freezer?

The Brady Freezerbondz labelling system ensures secure labelling in low temperature storage conditions. To lose positive sample identification, for example by a label falling off or becoming illegible, is equivalent to losing the sample itself. Losing an irreplaceable sample could be a major disaster for any research
project, and if it happened to be a human tissue sample could even lead to prosecution under the Human Tissue Act. Freezerbondz II, the latest Brady low temperature labelling product, is a polyester material with a permanent adhesive that can be applied direct to already frozen surfaces without the need to overlap, eliminating the risk attached to thawing samples
for labelling. Freezerbondz II labels remain secure even when samples are transferred from liquid nitrogen at -196°C to a water bath at 100°C or even to an autoclave.

Software for compliance

When samples are stored under HTA rules for purposes such as research, transplantation or teaching, a traceable inventory system is required by law. Newly released versions of Brady Corporation’s Pro-curo sample inventory software provide a complete, cost-effective solution to keeping track of samples. Pro-curo uses a familiar user interface based on MS Explorer to provide easy-access “cradle-to-grave” traceability of every event in a sample’s history. Records can be set up to log essential information about the sample in pre-formatted or user-defined data fields. The flexibility of the system also allows normal laboratory activities like subdividing samples to be recorded.
Pro-curo is fully FDA CFR 21 part 11 compliant and has advanced security
features to ensure 100% data security.

Plug and play sensors

Mettler Toledo’s new Plug & Play glass and metal titration sensors cover all applications - from fast and accurate pH measurements
to demanding titrations in delicate samples. The Plug & Play sensors are fully compatible to Excellence Titrators of the current and the new version to guarantee simple and cost-efficient transition. Electrode type, serial number, calibration data, validity period and working life are all stored in the sensor chip. These are automatically recognised by the Excellence
titrator minimising errors. Complete traceability to 21 CFR part 11 is ensured with LabX
Titration 2.6 software. Existing Titration
Excellence users simply have to update their software to use the Plug & Play sensor functionality.

Intelligent label printer

Brady IP Series Printer System is a revolutionary new thermal transfer printing system that safeguards against illegible or impermanent labelling due to an incorrect combination of label material and ink. It will have real benefits in any multi-disciplinary
laboratory or medical application that requires positive sample identification and traceability, and where a variety of procedures is in use. Brady Corporation is a world leader in labelling technology, and a vast product range supports virtually any application. In the laboratory environment, labels may have to withstand extremes of temperature or be subject to chemical attack. The right choice of label and ink is vital if labels are to survive this harsh environment, and Brady can offer up to 72 different combinations to suit any situation.

Labels that stick around

Labels may be subjected to hostile environments, solvents and other chemicals, not to mention extreme temperatures.
Brady scientific labelling systems have been developed with these conditions in mind. For example, there are 10 different adhesives to choose from to suit virtually any application,
with technical advice to make the right choice, and there are labels specially developed for the laboratory environment. The Brady Freezerbondz range can be applied direct to new or frozen surfaces and survives exposure to common laboratory environments such as liquid nitrogen and temperatures from freezer (-196°C) to autoclave (up to 121°C). These labels also show excellent chemical resistance when exposed to solvents such as
DMSO and Xylene.

Sample inventory software

Newly released versions of Brady Corporation’s Pro-curo sample inventory software provide a complete solution to keeping track of laboratory samples. A traceable sample
storage system is a benefit in any laboratory, but in some situations, as when human tissue samples are stored under HTA rules for purposes such as research, transplantation or
teaching, it is required by law. A major advantage of Pro-curo is that it is not limited to operation via a desktop PC, as the system can also be used with Brady’s portable PDA
style Barcode terminals. Staff can accurately
record sample movements anywhere in the lab with a simple barcode scan instead of carrying
around hand-written records. Procuro uses a familiar user interface based on MS Explorer.

Legible laboratory labels

Unreadable, smudged or faded labels can be the fatal flaw in a laboratory data trail. Labelling systems from the Brady Corporation, developed its own laboratories, provide comprehensive solutions to these problems. According to Brady, their thermal transfer print technology offers no less than 72 combinations of labels and print ribbons to ensure maximum legibility and permanence under all conditions, with print speeds up to 70 labels per second and crisp, clear, readable text at sizes from 4 point upward. Brady supply only own brand labels and ribbons and provide full technical support to ensure the correct match. Barcodes are of course the route to compatibility with LIMS and other data systems, and Brady printing technology yields the excellent contrast between black and white bars needed for 100% decoding.
